Diesel Cayenne in 2009

Diesel Cayenne

Porsche decided diesel is the future, thereby the company will introduce a diesel-powered car by the middle of 2009, and probably this first car will be the Cayenne SUV. Decision came to save substantial development costs.

Porsche CEO Wendelin Wiedeking has said repeatedly that the company constantly evaluates the commercial feasibility of putting a diesel engine in one or more of its models.

A Porsche spokesman said Friday that the issue remains under discussion internally. Porsche sources said no decision has been made.

Porsche, which currently uses only gasoline engines, has decided to introduce a hybrid version of the Cayenne in 2010, AID said. Whether hybrids will power other Porsche models depends on whether new technology will make it possible to substantially reduce battery size.

Men arrested for selling fake Ferrari

Fake Ferrari

Being able to transform a Toyota MR2 into a Ferrari look-alike was supposed to be a good thing (well, yes it is a crime against style!), but when you sale this fake Ferrari into a country like Italy where selling a Ferrari replica is against the law when you can get busted at any moment!

Police in Italy arrested a group of eight mechanics who transformed the Toyota MR2s and Pontiacs into Ferrari and sold them for £15,000 each.

Police are understood to have confiscated 14 fake 360 Modenas – seven sold and seven under construction – and eight people are under investigation.

Bentley Continental GTZ leaks before Geneva debut

Bentley Continental GTZ

Zagato is already a legend in the Italian auto history: starting with the Alfa Romeo racing from the 30s, to the Ferrari GTZ and Aston Martin DB4 GT from the 50s; and then to the Osca 1.600 Coupé GT and Lancia Flaminia Sport of the 60s, and to the recent Alfa Romeo RZ ed RZ, Aston Martin DB7, Ferrari 575 and Maserati GS, the concept of "beauty" found in the Zagato models is a way of life.

The Bentley GTZ Zagato is a neo-classical, in the same way with recent presentations at the Concorso d’Eleganza Villa D ’Este: Ferrari 575GTZ, in 2006, and of Maserati Zagato GS in 2007.

The GTZ features a hand-shaped aluminium body with pronounced character lines, flared wheel arches and a revised rear end with new taillights. The car also gets new colors for both the exterior and cabin, which has been modified with more sumptuous leather and a new center console.

The GTZ is powered by a force-fed W12 engine that delivers 600 hp and a peak torque of 553ft-lbs.

Mazda2 three-door

Mazda2 three-door

Mazda announced today that for the first time in history, the Mazda2 will be offered in a three-doors version. The new model will make its world debut in March at the Geneva Motor Show.
According to the company, the new version will have a more aggressive look, but the price will be more affordable.

e new Mazda2 Three-Door hatchback is designed to attract new customers and boost Mazda’s continued growth in the European market. It comes with the same powertrain line-up – the lively and responsive MZR 1.3-litre and 1.5-litre petrol engines and the MZ-CD 1.4-litre turbo diesel – as the five-door hatchback. These engines achieve high fuel efficiency together with particularly low CO2 emissions.

The Mazda2 Three-Door shares the same overall dimensions as the five-door and achieves a similarly modest kerb weight, model for model. The five-door Mazda2 has already demonstrated that by completely redesigning the body and chassis and implementing Mazda’s unique ‘gram strategy’, the brand’s small car weight could be reduced to under the 1,000 kilogram threshold.

Next to it Mazda will also exhibit the new generation RX-8, the Taiki Concept and a hybrid version of the Mazda5

Volkswagen confirmed Scirocco

sports cars

Volkswagen announced today company’s line-up at the Geneva Motor Show. Line-up includes: long-waited Scirocco, Golf TDI Hybrid, Passat Estate TSI EcoFuel, Sharan BlueMotion, Golf Estate 4Motion and European debut for the Passat CC.

The first-generation Scirocco was initially presented to the public 34 years ago. That was in Geneva too. Now Volkswagen is celebrating the comeback of its legendary two-door automobile. Thanks to an elongated roof, the vehicle offers room for four adults, making it a sports car that can be used on any day of the year.

The Scirocco is driven by a selection of four high-torque, low-consumption TDI and TSI engines of between 90 kW / 122 PS and 147 kW / 200 PS. This new sports car will come with a choice of numerous innovative technologies, such as an adaptive chassis control.

Press release

Volkswagen will be igniting a fireworks of models in Geneva, with seven international premiere presentations scheduled. The main spotlight will be on the completely re-engineered Scirocco, an all-round sports car, as the highlight of the show. Another vehicle being showcased at Lac Léman is the Golf TDI Hybrid. This concept car runs on just 3.4 litres of diesel per 100 kilometres. The 150-PS Passat Estate TSI EcoFuel also being showcased as a world premiere, represents a technology leap for automobiles run on natural gas. Other Volkswagen world premieres will be the extremely fuel-efficient Sharan BlueMotion (6.2 litres) and the four-wheel-drive Golf Estate 4Motion. The Passat CC will also be on display for the first time ever in Europe.

The first-generation Scirocco was initially presented to the public 34 years ago. That was in Geneva too. Now Volkswagen is celebrating the comeback of its legendary two-door automobile. The Scirocco is driven by a selection of four high-torque, low-consumption TDI and TSI engines of between 90 kW / 122 PS and 147 kW / 200 PS. This new sports car will come with a choice of numerous innovative technologies, such as an adaptive chassis control.

With its Golf TDI Hybrid, Volkswagen demonstrates the kind of potential inherent in the combination of high-tech diesel engine, electric motor and 7-speed DSG technology. Exhibited for the first time at the Geneva Motor Show, the concept car consumes no more than 3.4 litres of diesel fuel per 100 kilometres. This powerful full-hybrid Golf TDI Hybrid can be operated either in internal-combustion mode only or in a combination mode of powerful yet thrifty TDI and electric motor. The car is also designed to run on emissions-free electric power only. Power transmission to the front axle is managed by 7-speed DSG technology. In city traffic, the vehicle’s automatic stop-start system will even automatically switch off diesel operations.

The Passat Estate TSI EcoFuel being premiered in Geneva marks the beginning of a new era for natural-gas-fuelled automobiles. Until now, passenger cars operated using eco-friendly, low-consumption natural gas have tended to be "mild mannered". The Passat changes that once and for all with its 110-kW / 150-PS TSI engines. And yet the direct-injection turbo engine in the Passat, specifically designed to run on natural gas, consumes no more than 5.2 kilograms of gas per 100 kilometres. The Passat and the Passat Estate TSI EcoFuel are due to be launched on the market around year-end.

Volkswagen is continuing its BlueMotion campaign in 2008. The latest model in the series is the Sharan BlueMotion on display for the first time at the Geneva show. With an extremely low average fuel consumption of 6.2 litres of diesel per 100 kilometres, the Sharan BlueMotion uses 0.7 of a litre less than "conventional" models. By the same token, CO2 emissions are reduced from 177 g/km to 159 g/km. These are first-rate values for a seven-seat van with up to 2,610 litres of cargo volume and a permissible gross vehicle weight of 2,510 kilograms. This Volkswagen is driven by a 103-kW / 140-PS TDI engine complete with a diesel particulate filter (DPF). The BlueMotion option is available in combination with the Trendline and Comfortline fittings packages. Deliveries of the vehicle are scheduled to commence this summer.

Effective immediately, Volkswagen will be offering the Golf Estate in a version with permanent four-wheel drive. This automobile is designed to enable as much as 100 per cent of the vehicle’s tractive force to be transmitted to the rear wheels if so required in extreme circumstances. Thus, the Golf Estate TDI 4Motion offers the best possible grip even in the most adverse conditions.

The 4Motion system is coupled with a fuel-efficient, high-torque TDI engine with 77 KW / 105 PS. The Golf Estate TDI 4Motion accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 12.9 seconds, has a top speed of 185 km/h and consumes just 6.0 litres of diesel per 100 kilometres. One attribute which is bound to be particularly attractive to outfit drivers is that the Golf Estate TDI 4Motion is permitted to tow as much as 1,500 kilograms on gradients of up to twelve per cent – that’s 100 kilograms more than its front-wheel-drive counterpart

Irmscher Opel GT

Irmscher Opel GT

On the occasion of the company’s 35th anniversary the most powerful and strongest of the Opel Vectras had caused a stir by reaching a speed of more than 300km/h. However, that which is emerging from the factory floors in Remshalden for the company’s 40th anniversary is a vehicle for the true connoisseur: the Irmscher Opel GT i40.

The figures in the model’s number stand for the data of the company: Günther Irmscher senior started up in1968 in Winnenden with the first vehicle modifications. In the person of Günther Irmscher junior, the second generation is at the fore of the company in 2008 and is proof that 40 years of company history should be celebrated properly at this anniversary.

The Remshalden company is starting its anniversary with a world premiere in Geneva. Here, the GT will be making its first appearance and is sure to cause a stir at the company’s stand in Hall 2.

V8-engine and a driving performance that puts it in the company of thoroughbred sports cars male the experts sit up and take notice and connoisseurs tingle with anticipation. As it is known that appearances also matter, the GT is optically enhanced by means of a discreet modification to the car body, and, on the interior with an exclusive leather fitting.

For desert, Irmscher serves the news that the vehicle is to be produced in a small series. The appropriate attention is being paid to this already. The menu therefore also exists in takeaway form.

The GT i40 currently stands in a long tradition of elect vehicles.V8-engines have always had an important role to play at Irmscher. In this line of history stand the Senator V8 and not least the successful races in the Omega V8 with the F1-driver Johnny Cecotto at the wheel, who was able to win the championship twice.

The models with the “i”".

Special models with the “i” in their name have always had their place in the company history. The GT i40 here lines up with a whole row of other vehicles, from the i120, i130, i200…via the i500 to the i35 which appeared for the company’s 35th anniversary. At that time, a compressor helped enhance the performance of a V6-Motor. The result was the fastest Opel limousine in series production in the world. 5 years later it is a V8 that will cause a sensation in a Roadster.

Ford Kuga production starts

Ford Kuga

Ford of Europe today begin the production of the 2009 Kuga at the Ford plant in Saarlouis, Germany. The company plans to build around 45,000 examples of the new model in Saarlouis this year – equivalent to nearly 10 per cent of the plant’s annual production volume.

The Kuga is the fourth model to be launched at Saarlouis in the past 12 months. It follows the new Ford C-MAX in March 2007, the new Ford Focus in December 2007 and the new Ford Focus ST earlier this month.

The Kuga will be made available with a 2.0-litre Duratorq TDCi 136 PS 100kW engine mated to a six-speed manual transmission. Applicable to both FWD and intelligent AWD derivatives the torque, performance and pulling power under all engine and vehicle load conditions have been perfectly calibrated to the new Ford Kuga. This engine provides high levels of torque – 320 Nm at 2,000rpm and 340 Nm in transient overboost. FWD and intelligent AWD variants return favourable fuel economy figures of 6.3 and 6.4 litres of fuel per 100 km respectively, using the combined fuel consumption figures. The intelligent AWD figure of 169 g/km of CO 2 is class-leading.

Press release

Production of the all-new Ford Kuga, Ford of Europe’s first entry into the highly competitive crossover market, began today at the Ford plant in Saarlouis, Germany.

The company plans to build around 45,000 examples of the new model in Saarlouis this year – equivalent to nearly 10 per cent of the plant’s annual production volume.

Altogether Ford invested a very significant amount in new manufacturing technology to support Kuga production at Saarlouis. Sales of the Kuga will progressively begin across all European markets a little later this year.

“A distinctive ’kinetic design’ exterior, Ford’s acclaimed on-road vehicle dynamics and premium-like quality are just some of the highlights Kuga will bring to the fast-growing crossover market segment,” remarked John Fleming, President and CEO Ford of Europe.

The Kuga is the fourth model to be launched at Saarlouis in the past 12 months. It follows the new Ford C-MAX in March 2007, the new Ford Focus in December 2007 and the new Ford Focus ST earlier this month.

And with the introduction of the Kuga, Saarlouis now manufactures for the first time three different model series at the same time – Focus, C-MAX and Kuga.

The Ford Kuga is being built exclusively in Saarlouis and around 84 per cent of production will be exported to a total of 32 different countries. The five largest sales markets are Germany, Italy, Great Britain, France and Spain.

With 6,600 employees, the Ford plant in Saarlouis is the largest employer in the Saarland. A further 2,000 people are employed at the neighboring supplier park which supports the plant.

More than eleven million vehicles have been produced by Ford in Saarlouis since the start of manufacturing there on January 16, 1970. The Ford Escort (more than 6.5 million), Ford Capri, Ford Fiesta and Ford Orion have all been built there in the past. And the Ford Focus since 1998.

In 2007 a total of 392,413 vehicles rolled off the production line in Saarland. This is expected to increase to 425,000 vehicles in 2008.

2008 Infiniti EX37

2008 Infiniti EX37

Infiniti launched the 2008 EX37, the world’s first compact coupe crossover. Based on the Infiniti FM platform, EX37 shares much of its hardware with both the G37 and G37 Coupe. As a result, it enjoys the same high levels of handling precision and balance as well as similar levels of performance, refinement, build quality and equipment.

The EX37 is powered by a new 3.7-litre version of VQ engine family. Regularly honoured in independent awards the world over, the twin cam 24 valve V6 produces over 310PS and an impressive over 350Nm of torque.

EX37 is available with a new seven-speed automatic transmission while the suspension design - double wishbone set up at the front and multi-link arrangement at the rear - delivers the ideal blend between sporting handling and superior ride comfort.

Press release

Any new car buyer wanting a vehicle with the style of a coupe and the versatility of a four-wheel drive crossover would have had to buy two cars to satisfy every need.

But that’s about to change. The launch of the Infiniti EX37, the world’s first compact coupe crossover, opens an entirely new market segment for Europe’s newest car brand. Boasting avantgarde coupe looks and a practical, luxury interior with the commanding driving position and four-wheel drive traction expected from an SUV, the EX really does provide the best of all worlds.

“Infiniti prides itself on offering something different with each of its model ranges, but the EX is easily the most different of all,” says Jim Wright, Vice President, Infiniti Europe. “It’s the perfect fusion of a compact Crossover and a stylish coupe: there’s nothing quite like it on the market today … though we are certain that rival manufacturers will quickly try to follow suit with their own variations on the theme.”

But there’s more to the remarkable EX than a ground-breaking concept. Built to the same exacting standards as all Infiniti models, the EX37 offers an exceptional combination of elegance, style, performance and technology.

It is the first production vehicle in the world to benefit from the advanced Around View Monitor system that gives the driver a bird’s eye view of the vehicle while it’s being parked and the unique ‘Scratch Shield’.

“Because it is such a versatile offering, the EX37 will attract a wide audience. It’s the perfect vehicle for a young family, or a sports enthusiast who enjoys skiing or cycling. It will appeal to the coupe owner who needs more space in his or her car but isn’t prepared to sacrifice style to get it,” says Bastien Schupp, Marketing Director, Infiniti Europe.

“And like the other Infiniti products being introduced to the European market, it will appeal to individuals and free thinkers who never take the default option.”

EX in detail
The Infiniti EX37 is likely to be one of the most talked about new models launched in 2008. Powered by a new 3.7-litre version VQ family of petrol engines, EX37 brings together three different elements in one elegantly attractive package.

Its distinctive coupe-like styling masks a roomy cabin with electric fold down rear seats to extend the load bay and turn it into a sports estate. And then there’s the raised driving position and four-wheel drive traction of an SUV to consider. It all makes EX perhaps the ultimate Crossover.

Based on the Infiniti FM platform, EX37 shares much of its hardware with both the G37 and G37 Coupe. As a result, it enjoys the same high levels of handling precision and balance as well as similar levels of performance, refinement, build quality and equipment.

EX37 is available with a new seven-speed automatic transmission while the suspension design - double wishbone set up at the front and multi-link arrangement at the rear - delivers the ideal blend between sporting handling and superior ride comfort.

Following usual Infiniti peace of mind, EX37 comes exceptionally well equipped as standard, while for those who want more there is a full leather version available as well as a multimedia package introducing advanced new technology to the market sector.

Exterior styling
Despite its Crossover status, EX37 has been designed following traditional Coupe lines. That means a stretched wheelbase, long bonnet, short overhangs and a sharply tapering roof line. It is noticeably lower than its key rivals which helps to accentuate its low centre of gravity and lends more credence to its Crossover status.

Although longer than most of its SUV rivals – which benefits interior space – a compact overall shape help give EX37 the best aerodynamic positioning in the sector.

Above all, though, it’s the balanced harmony of its lines that help EX claim a unique place in a crowded market. Its designers have skilfully blended enough signature elements – such as the double arch grille, wave form bonnet and L-shaped headlamps – to ensure it’s an obvious member of the Infiniti family. Yet the overall effect is quite unlike anything in the range.

A bold and masculine stance contrasts with the flowing curves over the high wheelarches and the dramatic slope of the roofline. The rear has a simple, almost three dimensional, appearance combining an energetic shape with elegant styling features such as the chrome door handles, LED rear lights and integrated rear spoiler.

A feeling of sophistication comes with the use of darkened privacy glass for the rear windows, the simple seven-spoke 18 inch alloy wheels and fog lamps which are set deep into the front aero bumper.

Chassis and driving dynamics
EX37 uses the second generation version of Infiniti FM platform in which the engine is located in a ‘front midships’ position: the compact V6 is mounted in the front of the car, but as low and as far back as possible, with most of the block behind the front axle line.

The result lowers the centre of gravity and helps to deliver the optimum front to rear weight distribution. It also permits use of a long bonnet to accentuate the classic coupe silhouette.

Suspension design uses lightweight aluminium components to reduce weight as much as possible. With a double wishbone set up at the front, a multi-link arrangement mounted on a subframe behind and an extremely rigid bodyshell, EX feels agile and surefooted with a refined ride.

With extensive use of high strength steel throughout the shell and added strengthening elements in critical parts of the structure – notably under floor crossmembers and C-pillar reinforcements – EX has exceptionally high torsional rigidity and lateral bending resistance.

As well as boosting handling, the rigid body improves refinement thanks to low levels of vibration and improved resonance.

To keep weight to a minimum, however, extensive use has been made of lightweight parts. As well as featuring in the suspension systems, aluminium is used for the EX37 bonnet, while the tailgate is resin. Were steel to be used for those elements, EX37 would be some 50kg heavier. As a result EX37 is one of the lightest cars in its class.

Ride quality is also helped by the use of advanced Dual Flow Path (DFP) dampers which reduce low speed vibration that leads to a choppy ride and which further reduce levels of body roll.

An essential element of its crossover role is the adoption of Infiniti’s ATTESA E-TS (Advanced Total Traction Engineering System for All Electronic Torque Split) all-wheel drive system.

Also available on the G37, the system uses an active torque distribution management system with an active centre clutch for smooth starts, greater grip and better manoeuvrability on slippery surfaces without compromising the vehicle’s rear-wheel drive performance characteristics on dry roads.

By constantly adjusting the power – sending anything from 50 per cent to the front, to up to 100 per cent to the rear – the system generates greater control without sacrificing sportiness and true performance dynamics.

Unlike permanent 4x4 systems, which deaden the steering feel and dull the driving dynamics, the electromagnetic torque transfer at the heart of ATTESA E-TS intelligent all-wheel drive’s system permits an element of oversteer for a more sporting drive.

Vehicle stability is further enhanced by Electronic Stability Program (ESP) with is a standard fit. Intelligent all-wheel drive works with ESP and the limited-slip differential, constantly shifting torque as the EX37 encounters changes in the road conditions when, within milliseconds, it will apportion power to the wheels with the most grip.

The system is most active in trickier weather conditions. As the EX37 navigates snow, ice, or heavy rain, power is continuously apportioned to the wheel or wheels with the best traction.

Power-assisted four-wheel vented disc brakes have a four-channel, four-sensor Anti-lock Braking System (ABS), Electronic Brake force Distribution (EBD) and Brake Assist (BA). A further refinement is the availability of Intelligent Brake Assist (IBA). An integral part of Intelligent Cruise Control, when the system detects that a collision with a car in front is imminent it first warns the driver and then brakes the car itself.

The braking system is just one aspect of the EX37 that has been tuned to meet European needs where higher average speeds mean higher deceleration requirements. A team of dedicated Infiniti engineers based at Nissan’s Technical Centre Europe (NTCE) have also fine tuned suspension settings and optimised aerodynamic efficiency for greater higher speed stability.

The power steering system provides optimum steering effort at both high and low vehicle speeds.

Engine and powertrain
The EX37 is powered by a new 3.7-litre version of VQ engine family. Regularly honoured in independent awards the world over, the twin cam 24 valve V6 produces over 310PS and an impressive over 350Nm of torque.

Among its many features, the lightweight aluminium engine features a bed-plate construction. A technique that has been used in motor racing for many years, the resulting two-part construction of the cylinder block is more rigid than a single piece casting. Among engine specialists, this configuration signifies a high-performance sporting engine which is uncompromisingly designed for the highest strength and reliability.

Other benefits include reduced vibration levels and higher engine speeds to be reached consistently without damage.

The VQ37 unit also features V-VEL (Variable Valve Event and Lift) technology to optimise efficiency and, in turn, the balance between power, response, fuel efficiency and emissions.

V-VEL continually alters valve lift and therefore the quantity of air in the combustion chamber. At partial throttle – in stop-go city traffic, for example – it will make a small lift thus achieving a more precise fuel/air mix with lower quantities of both to improve fuel consumption. At full throttle, the valve lift is greater, inducting a larger quantity of air into the combustion chamber.

The result is a more powerful combustion phase increasing torque and power… while the increase in power is balanced by more efficient combustion to the benefit of fuel economy.

Precise mapping of the ECU, meanwhile, helps the engine provide a progressive ‘swell’ of power and torque, providing a ‘building wave’ of acceleration rather than a peaky power delivery.

EX37 will be available with a new seven-speed automatic option with Adaptive Shift Control (ASC).

With its additional forward gear, the new automatic transmission has a wider spread of ratios which benefits both fuel consumption and drivability. The seventh speed is effectively an overdrive ratio, returning improved fuel economy on a steady throttle without compromising in-gear flexibility for overtaking.

Shift points are tuned to keep the engine in the largest part of the torque curve, ensuring there is always a healthy reserve when the driver wants to overtake. The linked ASC system switches between three different programs depending on input from the major control systems throughout the car. The seven-speed automatic transmission also features a manual mode with blip control to enhance the driver’s driving pleasure.

Interior environment
Inside EX37 is an environment designed to appeal to driver and passengers alike. Quality materials provide the warmth and comfort expected in a luxury saloon, yet the driver’s quarters have a ‘scooped-out’ design to emphasise the concept of a cockpit in direct contrast to the open, spacious design of the passenger area.

Uniquely in its class, EX37 eases the loading and unloading of luggage with electric fold down rear seats. Each portion of the split folding backrest can be lowered simply by pulling a lever in the rear of the trunk area.

And even more easily, the backrest can raised electrically by pressing a button on the centre console. Load space is enhanced by a 45-litre underfloor storage compartment. This area is reduced if the Bose premium sound system is specified or the vehicle is equipped with a spare wheel in place of the standard inflation kit.

Standard and optional equipment
EX37 offers a full complement of standard equipment and features the Infiniti I-Key with smart access. As soon as the vehicle identifies a pre-programmed I-Key in the vicinity, the door can be opened and the car started without the key needing to leave a pocket or handbag.

Also standard are privacy glass, a six-disc, seven speaker CD audio system, Bluetooth mobile phone connectivity, cruise control, power seats, auto-dimming rear view mirror, front and rear parking sensors, automatic lights and wipers, 18-inch alloy wheels, six airbags (featuring thorax and pelvis protection) and integrated fog lamps. The leather trimmed steering wheel incorporates controls for the audio system, cruise control and telephone.

Unique to Infiniti is the use of “Scratch Shield” paint. A special highly elastic resin has been combined with a conventional clearcoat to increase the paint’s flexibility.

A car painted with “Scratch Shield” paint can exhibit up to five times fewer scratches that a conventional clearcoat when exposed to the same conditions. When exposed to heat, “Scratch Shield” paint repairs fine scratches, restoring painted surfaces close to their original state.

Optional on EX37 are a full leather version (offering leather heated seats, power passenger seat) and a Multimedia pack (with satellite navigation, a rear view parking camera, voice recognition and Bose Premium sound). A unique feature in the full leather version is the extendable jacket hanger integrated into the back of the driver head rest. Also, this version allows personal settings for the driver’s seat, steering wheel and exterior mirrors to be programmed into the key so that the key holder won’t have to reposition anything if the car has been driven by anyone else.

The Bose sound system is custom-engineered specifically for the EX37 to help reproduce music with clarity and spaciousness. Because it’s designed to work together with the EX37’s unique cabin acoustics, the Bose system delivers a level of music reproduction that approaches that of a live concert.

Also available are an adaptive front-light system (AFS) and Intelligent Cruise Control operating in “Full Speed Range”. In AFS, the xenon headlamps are linked to steering inputs and automatically follow the path of the front wheels to provide a wide spread of light around corners and on winding roads. ICC uses brake, throttle and laser sensors to help maintain a set distance between EX37 and the car in front. The software allows ICC to work from 0km/h thanks to the “Full Speed Range” feature.

But it is the final option that really lifts EX above its rivals. The Around View Monitor uses small cameras mounted at the front, rear and on the sides of EX37 to project an all-round view of potential obstacles on every side of the vehicle. A natural extension of Infiniti’s rear view parking camera, the Around View Monitor uses the colour sat nav monitor to display a bird’s eye view of the car as it parks, enabling the driver to negotiate a tight parking spot with mishap

Ferrari to open a new Asian subsidiary

Ferrari logo

To serve the rich and royal individuals in Asia, Ferrari has announced it will be opening its first fully owned subsidiary in April this year. The subsidiary will be located in Japan and will help customers in the Asian market to acquire their favorite supercar.

Japan has been the No.2 market for Ferrari for many years after the United States. This move by the Italian supercar maker is a sign of gratitude towards Japan. Ferrari’s Asian chief Marco Mattiacc, stated, “The Japanese market is still going for a long time to represent the largest market in Asia,”. “This is a market that has almost 1.2 million high net worth individuals, one of the highest concentrations of wealth in the world, so there’s plenty of opportunity. The key factor is to keep being exclusive,” Mattiacci elaborated.

Ferrari recorded a massive increase in sales last year and thats actually become a matter of concern. The profits are pleasing but the exclusivity factor takes a beating. The carmaker sold a total of 6,465 vehicles last year and with the launch of this new subsidiary, expect those numbers to multiply.

2009 Maybach Landaulet

The tradition-laden Maybach luxury brand is adding a fifth model to its line-up. The new Maybach Landaulet resurrects the legend of the classic luxury landaulets, a feature of which is that only the chauffeur’s area is closed. An extra-large folding roof opens up over the pampered rear-seat passengers when required, leaving no obstructions between them and the blue sky above. The Maybach Landaulet thus offers a majestic open-air experience currently unrivalled by any other automobile. Boasting a certain romantic quality and allowing its passengers the opportunity to savour a closeness to nature, this exceptional vehicle also features the ultimate in comfort and technological sophistication and as such sets the new standard for the world’s most exclusive luxury vehicles.

In November 2007, Maybach revived the aura of the grand carriages of days gone by with its Landaulet study. A limited number of vehicles will be built in the Manufaktur workshops in Sindelfingenover a restricted period. The finest materials are painstakingly handcrafted by select craftsmen to meet the customers’ exacting requirements - just as the discerning Maybach clientele would expect. According to the latest Luxury Brand Status Index (LBSI), a survey of 531 U.S.millionaires recently voted Maybach the most prestigious luxury automobile brand.

2009 Maybach Landaulet

Exclusive workplace for the chauffeur, exquisite luxury for passengers
The Maybach Landaulet is a masterpiece of automotive engineering and comes with its very own exciting yet distinguished, authentic style. While the chauffeur’s workplace is appointed with high-grade, smooth black leather and trim elements in glossy piano lacquer, the passengers in the rear with its optional contrasting colour scheme enjoy their place in the sun. They travel on opulent reclining seats upholstered in exquisite Grand Nappa leather in an environment of utmost luxury and exquisite style.

Large folding roof for a close-to experience of nature

In technical terms the Maybach Landaulet is based on the Maybach 62 S – which can claim to be the world’s most powerful series-produced chauffeured saloon. Maybach technicians have removed the rear roof module in order to afford passengers an unobstructed view of the sky above. The side walls have been invisibly reinforced with an integral tubular steel structure. As these measures have not altered the silhouette of the luxury saloon, the generously dimensioned doors and the complete interior with reclining seats remain unchanged.

When closed, the black soft-top of the Landaulet rests on the roof frame formed by the longitudinal roof arches and is wind- and weather-proof. When requested by the passengers, the chauffeur operates a switch in the centre console. Fully automatically, the electro-hydraulic system then opens the roof, thetop is folded and gently laid onto the parcel shelf in the rear, together with its integral rear windscreen made of safety glass.

The chauffeur is able to enclose the folded roof with a fine leather tonneau cover, which both conceals the roof mechanism from view and completes the overall picture of outstanding elegance. The tonneau cover comes in the same colour as the interior of the rear compartment, thereby ensuring consistent styling and creating a harmonious link with the exterior. A logo reading "Maybach Landaulet" in the colour specified by the customer is embroidered onto the cover, where it is visible to following traffic.

Designed specifically for open-top motoring
Maybach has adapted the luxurious rear compartment to the requirements of open-top motoring. For instance, the rear head restraints are slightly larger than on the saloon and effectively help reduce wind turbulence. Another slim wind deflector is automatically raised at speeds above 70 km/h to further reduce the risk of any uncomfortable draughts. The deflector, which measures around five centimetres, can be activated manually at any time. The switch is conveniently positioned for rear passengers in the centre console.

The intercom in the passenger compartment is fitted with an additional handset in the centre console, allowing passengers to communicate with the driver at any time while the roof is down.

Appointments to satisfy every desire
The new Maybach Landaulet is painted in Baltic Black or Nevada Silver in a sophisticated process that ensures the highest standards of quality. Clients can choose from three leather appointment options, and a choice of two trim element finishes – black piano lacquer combined with either carbon-fibre trim or fine anthracite poplar.

As testimony to its exceptional customer focus, Maybach also meets many customer special requirements at no extra charge. For instance, Landaulet clients can choose the individual appointments for their vehicle from the entire Maybach paint finish, leather and trim element range. An extra charge only applies to highly exclusive requirements such as special paint finishes based on the customer’s own specifications, select leather colours, trim elements in natural stone or the electro-transparent partition.

Visual highlights are provided by 20-inch aluminium wheels, also available as an option painted in the vehicle colour or burnished to a high sheen in a special finishing process.

Engine and suspension
The Maybach Landaulet is powered by an uprated V12 engine, developed for the Maybach 57 S and the Maybach 62 S. Thanks to twin turbochargers, the V12 engine develops 450 kW/612 hp from a displacement of 5980 cubic centimetres. Equipped with the AIRMATIC DC (Dual Control) electronically controlled air suspension system and the Adaptive Damping System (ADS II) the Landaulet model achieves an outstanding level of ride comfort whilst at the same time proving that even a prestigious automobile can display excellent agility and handling qualities.

First deliveries in autumn 2008
The Maybach Landaulet will cost EUR 900,000 (or US$ 1.35 million). The first customer vehicles are due to leave Maybach Manufaktur in autumn 2008.

2008 Opel Meriva Concept

2008 Opel Meriva

With the dynamically styled Meriva Concept, Opel presents the next level of monocab flexibility at the International Motor Show in Geneva (March 6 – 16, 2008). The concept car features rear-hinged rear doors on both sides of the car called FlexDoors. While the front doors are conventionally designed with front hinges, the rear doors swing open towards the back of the car. Another feature of the family-oriented Meriva Concept is that the front and rear doors can open independently of each other. Rear-hinged rear doors already on the market can only be opened after the front door has been opened, which severely limits their practicality.

FlexDoors smooth operation is backed up by an array of patented innovations developed by GM/Opel engineers. A safety system ensures the doors can only be opened from the inside or outside when there is no risk to the passengers. The Meriva Concept also features an automatic electronic child lock, which supplements the conventional mechanical system. The concept car also has B-pillars not only for independent opening but also for side-impact safety reasons.

The Meriva Concept’s design is distinguished by its attractive combination of practicality and spaciousness with very dynamic and cool styling. The concept car’s distinctive window line, arched roof, wide track and impressively sculpted body give a good indication of what is to be expected from future Opel production monocabs.

GM/Opel’s patented FlexDoors innovation offers a wide range of benefits:

Greater functionality: entering and exiting the vehicle is more convenient as the rear doors open to a 90-degree angle, creating a much wider aperture than standard car doors. Thanks to the high roofline, rear passengers also have more headroom when getting in and out of the car. The interior is much more accessible, so stowing a briefcase behind the front seat, for instance, is considerably easier.
Higher level of safety: securing children in the back seats is much easier. The rear-hinged rear doors also improve control over children exiting the car, as they can be better seen from the different seating positions. The “safety zone” created between both doors also makes it much more difficult for them to step out into traffic than with conventional doors.
More style: entering and exiting the rear of the vehicle not only looks cool and elegant, but also feels much more natural.
“The Meriva Concept clearly illustrates how our new Opel design language can be adapted to create bold, fresh design solutions for the monocab segment” says Mark Adams, Vice President of Design, General Motors Europe. Especially eye-catching is the dynamic “wave” of the window line just behind the B-pillars, which provides an excellent all-round view for rear passengers. This also enabled designers to create a dynamic and unique silhouette and still provide good visibility for children in the rear.

The body also boasts the distinctive “blade” bodyside form, which was a design element of the GTC Coupé and Flextreme. Another feature is the U-shaped windshield, which stretches up and back over the rear passengers’ heads. Rear section elements – in particular the rear lights – echo the Insignia, Opel’s new upper mid-size class car due to be unveiled in the summer. The monocab’s roof slopes gently downward towards the rear, underlining its dynamic character.

“The FlexDoors concept is a logical enhancement of our monocabs’ flexibility,” explains Alain Visser, Chief Marketing Officer, General Motors Europe. “With the Zafira’s Flex7® seating system and the Meriva’s FlexSpace concept, we took on a similar pioneering role in interior flexibility.” Opel is enjoying great success with its monocab designs: in 2007, almost 335,000 Zafira and Meriva models were sold. And with the new Agila, monocab expert Opel now also offers an entry-level monocab in the mini-car segment. Every fifth Opel model sold today is a monocab, while in the total market it is just every eighth car.

2008 Alfa GT Blackline III

2008 Alfa GT Blackline

Alfa Romeo will unveil at the Geneva Motor Show the GT Blackline III 1.9 JTDM, a model powered by a 1.9 JTDM engine that develops 170 hp at 3.750 rpm and 330 Nm (33,6 Kgm) of torque at 2.000 rpm. It makes the 0 to 60 mph sprint in 8.2 seconds and can hit a top speed of 216 km/h.

Alfa GT Blackline III features 18" alloy wheels, double chromed exhaust, and satined effect for mirrors, grills and whiskers. Even in the interior the Alfa GT Serie Speciale “Blackline III” reveals a sporty charisma, as shown by the sporty pedals in aluminium and the serigraphed kick-panel. Furthermore, the black tones characterize the black leather seats with a central perforated insert and Alfa Romeo logo on the headrest, as well as the steering wheel and display panel in leather.

Press release

The Alfa GT model offers an original style, rich in exciting features and performances. It represents an innovative conception of sporty style, into which comfort and elegance also converge. The best example of this stylistic equilibrium is the model on display in the Geneva showroom: the Special “Blackline III” range, fitted with the powerful 1.9 JTDM with 170 CV and the front self-locking Torsen® (called Q2) system.

The greatest change in this new Alfa GT model is the adoption of a 1.9 JTDM propulsion, which supplies a maximum power of 170 CV (125 kW) at 3.750 rpm and a maximum torque coupling of 330 Nm (33,6 Kgm) at 2.000 rpm, which allows a top speed of 100 km/h in 8,2 seconds. A powerful and progressive engine, which will be available as of next June, and can also be fitted with a anti-particulate filter (DPF).

2008 Alfa GT Blackline III

It’s worth noting, that placed on the tunnel is a Sport button, with which you can vary the mapping of the accelerator pedal. You can chose between a more touristy mapping or a sportier one: the latter improves the car’s response and renders the drive more exciting.

So much power, therefore, is confirmed by the external design which stands out due to the compact aggressive styling. The car is embellished with aesthetic touches like the 18” alloy wheels, the double chromed exhaust, and the satined effect for mirrors, grills and whiskers.

In addition, the model on display is differentiated by the front self-locking Torsen® (called Q2) system, which has all the merits of front-wheel traction, such as heightening the driving ease and pleasure and guaranteeing the advantages typical of an integrated traction. In detail, the system is mated to JTDM with 170 CV, so benefiting of the excellent weight/power ratio, thanks to the use of Common Rail technology. The benefit is also due to the predominant role that diesel motorizations have taken on in the field of sport engines. The “Q2” system combines perfectly the torque specifications and power of the 1.9 JTDM increasing yet further the already excellent performance levels of a vehicle with a normal differential.

This is how it works. The “Q2” system is based on a limited slip differential, the mechanical Torsen type. In particular, this differential has the job of permanently distributing torque between the front wheels in a dynamic manner, depending on the driving conditions and road surface. Mated to the exclusive front wishbone suspension, the system allow a particularly efficient tuning of the vehicle.

Stay tuned, more details will follow. At the moment , the company only confirmed at the moment the existence of the model.

2008 Peugeot 308 GT THP

2008 Peugeot 308

Peugeot will unveil at the Geneva Motor Show the 308 GT THP, a model powered by a 1.6 liter turbo-charged THP 175 bhp petrol engine, previously found in the 207 GTi THP 175. The engine will be mated by a new 6-speed manual gearbox.

Designed in co-operation with the BMW Group, the 1.6 liter turbo-charged petrol engine develops a maximum power of 175 bhp at 6000 rpm but is characterised mainly by its generous torque output. With a maximum torque output of 180 lb ft (or 195 lb ft with overboost) at only 1600 rpm, the engine provides excellent in-gear acceleration and levels of driveability normally associated with a larger capacity engine.

The 308 GT THP will go on sale starting April.

Press release

Peugeot will unveil two new 308 models at this year’s Geneva Motor Show, the innovative and practical 308 SW and the dynamic 308 GT THP 175. This new top of the range petrol model will be powered by the 1.6 liter turbo-charged THP 175 bhp petrol engine, previously found in the 207 GTi THP 175. It is also fitted with a new 6-speed manual gearbox.

To match the dynamic nature of the engine, the exterior of the vehicle benefits from a number of cosmetic changes. The lower front bumper panel has a unique appearance which is combined with a rear spoiler and a reduced overall ride height.

Inside, the interior gains an aluminum gear knob and foot pedals and a new steering wheel design.

This new engine provides the 308 with higher performance levels while, at the same time, providing a combined fuel consumption of 37.1 mpg and CO2 emissions of 180 g/km, 10% less than those of the 307 2.0 liter Feline 180.

The 308 GT THP 175 will go on sale in the UK in April and more information concerning specification and prices will be announced nearer the launch date.

Fiat 500 Abarth coming soon

“With a strong sporty personality, the new car will be powered by a Fire 1.4 16v petrol Turbo engine, which delivers a maximum of 135 bhp (100kW) at 5,500 rpm and peak torque of 206Nm at 3,000 rpm in ‘Sport’ mode…” says Fiat with a straight face. Say what? Only 135 bhp? We waited so many months for a measly 135 horses? We must have been robbed.

See, previous generation Ford Focus used a 2.0-litre engine to generate a similar amount of buzz in the hood. So 135 seems impressive for a 1.4, albeit force-fed. But scratch under the skin a little and you’ll discover that 500 Abarth’s closest nemesis, MINI Cooper S, squats with 172 horses underneath her belly. Fact is, a region of 135 bhp hasn’t been made by a compact hot hatch since Fiesta ST came into power. That was during the middle ages.

Yes we are simply bowled over by the exceptionally stylish 500 Abarth with its smokey wheels, fat wheel arches and honeycomb mashed grille. It’s the stuff of legends even as it does not move. And when it moves, to 100km/h to be precise, over 8 seconds will go by. Compare this with Cooper S’s 7.3 odd and you start to ask questions like “will they make an even faster version”? They will.

As far as handling goes, Fiat has put to use a Torque Transfer Control system that hugs bends like your aunt used to hug you, promising handling that is highly entertaining. Perhaps I’m missing the point entirely here, perhaps 500 Abarth doesn’t care if the other kid is quicker off the block, or that he is better-endowed. Perhaps. Perhaps Abarth only cares that she can offer the best value entertainment for buck in her block, and believes that being a showstopper doesn’t necessarily involve a test of manhood.

Plate '1' smashes world record at $14.5m

Plate '1' Sold

This week-end at an auction in the United Arab Emirates the number 1 plate was sold for $14.5 million and the businessman who bought it said it was ready to go up to $30 million to buy it.

"Saeed Abdul Ghaffar Khouri, paid Dh52.2 million, more than double the current record, to become the proud new owner of Plate "1" — the ultimate car registration number," announced Abdulla Matar Al Mannaei, Managing Director of Emirates Auction, the official auctioneer for Code 5 distinguished number plate auctions, supported by the General Directorate of Abu Dhabi Police.

The earth-shattering price breaks Emirates Auction’s own record for the most expensive car license plate ever sold. Plate "5" sold for Dh25.2 million in May 2007 - almost 10 ten times the value of the luxury car it adorns. It was snapped up by Abu Dhabi businessman Talal Ali Mohammad Khouri.

"The expectations going in were huge. We were confident of delivering a positive outcome, but the final value exceeds our wildest hopes and dreams,’ Al Mannaei said.

"Today we set not just one, but two records, said Al Mannaei, adding that the auction - the sixth such even organized by Emirates Auction - attracted 750 participants, and generated a record Dh89 million (USD 24.25) from the sale of 90 number plates.

Along with "1," a total of 90 distinguished license plates were sold, including special numbers such as 96, 100, 212, 1111, 2001 and 31313.

Porsche recalling almost 19.000 Cayenne

Porsche Cayenne

Porsche is rearranging the fuel line in the engine compartment of 18,856 vehicles of the Cayenne model worldwide. This affects vehicles which were produced between November 30, 2006 and January 18, 2008.

There is the possibility with these vehicles that the slight movements of the engine when traveling could cause a fuel line to come in contact with the engine compartment cladding. This could cause a knocking sound and abrasion markings could occur on the fuel line itself. Up to now, there have been five known complaints worldwide, but only one instance in which any abrasion markings appeared on the fuel line. In order to avoid any further problems, Porsche is going to change the layout of the fuel line in the vehicles concerned.

Time in the workshop is about 40 minutes. For the customers, who will be advised of this shortly, the procedure is free of charge.

2009 Rolls Royce Phantom Coupe

2009 Rolls Royce Phantom Coupe

Rolls Royce will unveil at the Geneva Motor Show the Coupe version of the luxury sedan Phantom. The Phantom Coupe version comes two years after the unveiling of the 101EX Concept unveiled in 2006. Production of the new Coupe will begin at Goodwood in the summer.

The Phantom Coupe is powered by a 6.75-litre V12 that produces 453 bhp, 720 Nm of torque and has segment-leading fuel economy. A 25 per cent increase in fuel capacity, compared to the Drophead Coupé, adds significant driving range. Agile, fast, long-legged and virtually silent, the Phantom Coupé allows both driver and passengers to emerge unruffled, even after an all-day run.

At the core of the Phantom Coupé is an advanced aluminium chassis, perhaps the single most significant component in delivering the marque’s legendary refinement. Lightweight and exceptionally strong, it impacts positively on ride comfort, handling and safety. Hand made, it requires over 130 meters of welding to create each body.

Press release

Rolls-Royce Motor Cars will unveil its new Phantom Coupé at the 78th International Geneva Motor Show on Tuesday, 4 March 2008. Production of the new car will start at Goodwood in the summer of 2008.

The Coupé is the most driver-orientated model in the Phantom line. A number of subtle but significant modifications have been made that change its character. It is noticeably more dynamic, whilst still offering incredible levels of comfort.

Marrying cutting-edge technology with a beautifully proportioned, muscular body that exudes power and style, it incorporates timeless Rolls-Royce design cues in an utterly contemporary manner.

Designed to cover great distances effortlessly, the Coupé is the perfect choice for a transcontinental trip. Power is provided by the Phantom’s 6.75-litre V12 that produces 453 bhp, 720 Nm of torque and has segment-leading fuel economy. A 25 per cent increase in fuel capacity, compared to the Drophead Coupé, adds significant driving range. Agile, fast, long-legged and virtually silent, the Phantom Coupé allows both driver and passengers to emerge unruffled, even after an all-day run.

Rolls-Royce Motor Cars Chief Designer, Ian Cameron, said “Rolls-Royce has always been about pace, performance and style. For the Coupé design we gave the quintessential Rolls-Royce design a dynamic twist. This adds a sense of drama to the outstanding engineering and drivability that are fundamentals of Rolls-Royce cars. The dynamic drive of the Phantom has always come as a surprise to customers and the Coupé takes it one step further.”

The Phantom Coupé features rear-hinged coach doors which add considerably to the ease of access to the rear lounge seats as well as to the overall aesthetics. Crucially, they aid the overall stiffness of the body as the rear hinged doors allow for an uninterrupted A-pillar helping to make this the most torsionally rigid Rolls-Royce ever. A brushed steel finish of A-pillar and bonnet, as seen for the first time on 100EX, is also available for the Coupé.

At the rear is a spacious picnic boot. A split tail compartment that opens in two parts, gives easy access to 395 litres of space. The lower tailgate also provides a comfortable seating platform for two adults when lowered.

Rolls-Royce Motor Cars Chairman and Chief Executive, Ian Robertson, said, “The Coupé has been designed and engineered to be the most dynamic interpretation of our values. Our 2007 sales figures illustrate how successful the entire model range has been with an increase of 25 per cent over the previous year.”

Audi R8 ( MSN Car of the Year )

Audi R8

The Audi R8 has bagged the MSN Cars Car of the Year award defeating rivals Ferrari 430 Scuderia and BMW M3 by a huge margin. The online poll was conducted on MSN’s U.K website and the R8 grabbed 42 percent of the casted 15,000 votes.

The contest is into its fourth year now with the BMW 3-Series Coupé, Bugatti Veyron and Aston Martin DB9 emerging winners on previous occasions. There were some surprises this year like the Merc C-Class which won the Wheels magazine car of the year award, came only 7th and the Fiat 500 which earlier won the European car of the year award, came at a disappointing 6th. The Jaguar XF saloon couldn’t contest and if it had, the R8 would have faced tough competition given the Brits love for Jags.

“When I first drove it(Audi R8) a couple of months ago I was blown away by its exhilarating, sure-footed handling, the grunt of its performance, and the fact that every second person on the road gave it a long hard stare as we hurtled by. A brilliant car that fully deserves to follow in the steps of cars like the DB9 and Veyron to be an ‘MSN Cars Car of the Year’,” said MSN Cars content manager Tom Evans.

The Audi R8 is aggressive, elegant and a remarkable feat of automotive engineering. It adds another element to Audi’s sprawling portfolio and adds another dimension to the supercar world.

Here are the entire results of the poll:

1. Audi R8 42%

2. Ferrari 430 Scuderia 13%

3. BMW M3 11%

4. Ford Mondeo 9%

5. Rolls-Royce Phantom DHC 7%

6. Fiat 500 6%

7. Mercedes-Benz C-Class 6%

8. Mini Clubman 2%

9. Mitsubishi i-car 2%

10. Mazda 2 1%

Pagani Zonda R

sports cars

While we certainly cannot say the Zonda F lacks performance figures, driving around the Nürburgring in 7:32 and achieving lateral G forces of almost 1.5 G, it is however a road car, easy to drive, intuitive and setting the benchmark for comfort, safety and lightweight. Paired with a quality finish and the attention to detail this made the Zonda F one of the most desirable supercars resulting in the 25 Coupé models being sold out in record time.

This did not seem to fulfil the requirements of our most demanding customers, who adore the weekend drive on a racetrack.

The spark has been set by an Italo-American customer, enthusiast and already proud owner of 3 Zondas. He describes the project this way: "The thought has been on my mind for quite some time, but I am not interested in racing".

The Zonda R is born with full liberty. The target: the ultimate performance at the racetrack without any implications of rules, except for safety, where no compromise is allowed. In September 2006 the first drawings were ready, but it was crucial to have the support of Mercedes-AMG for a high revving engine with a power output of 750hp, dry sump, light and
with a low centre of gravity. The basis was the self supporting engine of the mighty CLK GTR, which has dominated the GT championships.

Eve at constant racing pace the engine would have to cover over 5.000 km before servicing. The challenge has been accepted without hesitation.

The Zonda R is a car designed from scratch, with only 10% of the Zonda F components to be carried over. The suspension forged in Avional, a new Pagani six speed transversal sequential gearbox, carbon fibre monocoque, aeronautical four pump fuel tank are only part of the equation.

The wheelbase has grown by 47mm, the overall length by 394 mm and the track is increased by 50mm. The bodywork and aerodynamics have been studied to offer maximum downforce. Even though built for the track, the project would not have received kick off, if the quality and finish of the car and its details was not up to the level of the Pagani road cars.

One of the first cars to be delivered however will be kept in a living room, designed by Pagani and built with the same materials as the Zonda F, beautifully textured carbon fibre, avional, titanium, inconel and other state of the art materials. Additionally it will feature a bespoke HiFi System that will allow the customer to listen to the sound of this car at Le Mans and the Nürburgring.

The Pagani customers who have ordered the Zonda R will be relieved of almost 1.2 million + taxes.

This Zonda is purpose made for track use, without restrictions of any competition rules or homologation, with the only exclusion of the passengers’ integrity, where no compromise is tolerated according to our philosophy and state-of-the-art safety measures are featured.

A new heart
The engine is built by the racing specialists at Mercedes AMG, where the championship winning DTM cars are born, as well as the CLK GTR, probably the most devastating and effective weapon ever to compete in the GT series. From it’s engine the Zonda R borrows the basic architecture including an ingenious dry sump allowing a low centre of gravity. This self-supporting engine with 750 hp at 8000 rpm and 710 Nm of torque carries a lightweight carbon fibre highperformance intake system, a racing multiple disc sintered clutch and Formula 1 style exhaust system, hydroformed in Inconel 625 and ceramic coated for optimal heat dissipation. The power unit combined with a 6 speed transversal manual sequential synchronised gearbox is designed to satisfy the most ambitious drivers.

The chassis
The central carbon chassis will incorporate a roll cage and a rubber racing fuel tank with 4 fuel pumps and quick refuel filler like on GT race cars. The wheelbase has been increased by 47mm to offer the best stability. The front and rear subframes are brand-new, built to accommodate a new suspension geometry, produced in avional. The magnesium forged rims with central wheel nut and a quick pneumatic lifting system allows fast and effortless changes of the slick tyres.

Bodywork and aerodynamics
The new bodywork has been honed to offer elevated downforce even in low speed corners. The longer front bonnet with flaps, closed underbody and the rear overhang with the adjustable rear wing and race derived diffusor translate into shattering aerodynamic efficiency and will let you experience cornering speeds beyond imagination.

The car displays and logs information about the amount of dowforce that the car is generating at each moment. Combined with the adjustable wings you can easily find the best setup for each track.

Workstation

The interior is designed to accommodate the driver and passenger in bespoke seats, built to offer the best support, when the G-forces from the vehicle dynamics come into question. The Digitek instrumentation provides the essential information and a sophisticated telemetry allows through a variety of sensors to monitor every single component of the car.
